NB Senior Men’s – 1st Round Pairings & Tee-Times
NB Mid-Master – 1st Round Pairings & Tee-Times
Golf New Brunswick’s (Golf NB) final provincial championship events of the season, the 2017 NB Senior & Mid-Master Championships, will take place at the Gowan Brae Golf & Country Club from July 24th to 26th, 2017.
The 54-hole competition includes 90 men in the senior division and 36 in the mid-master division. The 2016 Senior Men’s champion, Mark Armstrong, and 2016 Mid-Master champion, Ed Reevey, both of Riverside, will be returning to defend their titles, while the Super-Senior title is up for grabs.
Armstrong will be challenged once again by 2016 team New Brunswick teammates, Dan Coulombe of Fredericton and Mike Breen of Hampton, as he looks for a second consecutive senior men’s title. Coulombe is a former men’s amateur champion and a three-time mid-amateur champion, and he is looking to add a senior men’s title to his trophy case at the course he grew up playing. Breen is also a former champion of the event as he won it in 2013. The three will be paired together as they tee off at 12:20pm on Monday. Also in the senior men’s field is Gary Melanson of Covered Bridge. Melanson is a three-time mid-amateur champion, a two-time mid-master champion, and a three-time senior men’s champion. He is looking to reclaim the senior men’s title which he last won in 2014 when the tournament was held in Edmundston.
In the mid-master field is two-time defending champion, Ed Reevey of Riverside. Along with being a two-time champion of the mid-master competition, Reevey is also a two-time mid-amateur champion having won in back to back years in 2009 and 2010, and a former men’s amateur champion. Reevey will have tough competition as he searches for a third consecutive title with multiple champions of past events looking to claim the 2017 mid-master title. Paired with Reevey in the first pairing of the day on Monday is three-time mid-master champion and two-time mid-amateur champion, Tony Mackinnon of Fredericton. Also in the mid-master field is the 1992 Canadian men’s amateur champion, Darren Ritchie of Hampton. Ritchie is also a two-time NB men’s amateur champion, and a former mid-master champion.
With the super senior title up for grabs, Dave Barley of Fox Creek looks to reclaim the title which he won in 2015. Barley is a former senior men’s champion, and a super senior runner-up. Also in the hunt for the super senior title is Herrick Hansen of Aroostook. Hansen is a former mid-amateur and senior men’s champion, as well as a three-time runner-up of the senior event.
In 2018, the Gowan Brae Golf & Country Club will be hosting the Canadian Men’s Senior Championship. It will be the fifth time that the Gowan Brae Golf & Country Club has hosted a national championship event. In the past, it has hosted the Junior Girls National Championship twice, in 1992 & 2006, the Mid-Amateur National Championship in 1998, and the National Ladies Team Club Championship in 1996.
With many great players and past champions in both the mid-master and senior fields, the event will be sure to have plenty of excitement over the three day tournament at Gowan Brae.
