The 2018 NB Ladies Provincial Championships Heads to Miramichi Golf & Country Club
Golf New Brunswick’s (Golf NB) 2018 NB Ladies Provincial Championships will take place July 8th to 10th, 2018 at the Miramichi Golf & Country Club. The 2018 NB Ladies Provincial Championship will see the 54-hole competition include 87 ladies in the field. The amateur division has 7 participants, the mid-amateur has 9 while the senior has 32 and the super-senior has 39.
Defending NB Ladies Amateur, Mid-Amateur, and Senior Champion Leanne Richardson of Country Meadows Golf Club looks to keep herself at the top of all three divisions again this year, however it will not be easy. In the race to capture this year’s Amateur Championship is Miramichi’s own Morgan Matchett who looks to build off of her 2017 T-4 performance to win her first ever NB Ladies Provincial Championship at her home club.
2017 NB Super-Senior Champion Kris Harvey of Fredericton returns to the field in Miramichi to try and repeat her performance and capture the championship for a second consecutive year. It won’t be an easy task for Harvey however with fierce competition in the field especially from her Fredericton club mates Kathy Meagher, Connie Bothwell, and Penny Dickeson who finished 2nd, 3rd, and 4th in last year’s event.
In addition to the four provincial championships, also up for grabs are positions on both the NB Ladies Amateur and NB Ladies Senior Teams, along with an exemption into the Mid-Amateur division at the Canadian Women’s Amateur Championship, to be played at Marine Drive Golf Club in Vancouver, BC from July 24th to 27th, 2018, and the Canadian Women`s Mid-Senior Championship, to be held at Lookout Point Country Club in Fonthill, Ontario from August 28th to 30th, 2018.
With a strong field at this year’s event that includes many past champions and perennial contenders, the 2018 NB Ladies Provincial Championships will be sure to test the endurance of the province’s best lady golfers over the three-day tournament.

700 golf courses participating in Take A Kid To The Course
Kids across the county are getting treated to some free golf this summer through an initiative from the National Golf Course Owners Association (NGCOA) Canada.
Starting July 3, 700 Canadian golf courses will offer free golf to junior golfers under the age of 16 during the Take A Kid To The Course program.
Not only does the program promote the game of golf at the grassroots level, but it promotes something much more valuable: family time.
“Golf provides kids with valuable life skills, such as perseverance, patience, and respect,” states Jeff Calderwood, CEO of the National Golf Course Owners Association Canada. “They will enjoy quality time with family and friends and experience an activity that takes them away from the computer and into the great outdoors.”
Along with providing junior golfers with free green fees, many of the clubs participating in the event offer free range balls, junior lessons and many other specials.
The program is entering its 16th season, during which it has allowed over 350,000 golfers an opportunity to golf for free.

OAKVILLE, Ont. – Golf Canada, in partnership with RBC, is pleased to announce that golf legend Lee Trevino will be taking part in the RBC Hall of Fame Day celebration on Tuesday, July 24th, beginning at 11 a.m. ET, as part of the 2018 RBC Canadian Open.
A three-time RBC Canadian Open champion (1971, 1977, 1979) and member of the World Golf Hall of Fame, Trevino will join 20 honoured members of the Canadian Golf Hall of Fame at a free outdoor public event to officially celebrate the newest inductees—former LPGA Tour player and broadcaster Gail Graham along with the late renowned golf course architect Arthur Vernon (A.V.) Over the course of his professional career, Trevino won six major golf championships and 29 PGA TOUR events. Tiger Woods is the only other player to accomplish the feat (2000). Trevino’s win in 1977 is also remembered as the first Canadian Open conducted at Glen Abbey Golf Club.
Trevino will also be awarded a keepsake Triple Crown trophy during the outdoor celebration, which will take place in Spectator Village at Glen Abbey Golf Club.
“We are absolutely honoured to welcome golf legend Lee Trevino back to Canada to help celebrate RBC Hall of Fame Day at the RBC Canadian Open,” said Golf Canada CEO Laurence Applebaum.” As a three-time Canadian Open winner and one of only two golfers ever to win the illusive Triple Crown trophy, we are extremely proud to have Mr. Trevino participate in RBC Hall of Fame Day and celebrate his unique and meaningful connection to Canada’s National Open Championship.”
RBC Hall of Fame Day will be hosted by Canadian golf legend Sandra Post, an honoured member of the Canadian Golf Hall of Fame and Chair of the Hall of Fame Selection Committee.
Following the free public outdoor induction ceremony, Trevino and attending members of the Canadian Golf Hall of Fame will participate in a gala luncheon—the Canadian Golf Hall of Fame Induction Celebration presented by Emerick Construction—taking place inside the clubhouse at Glen Abbey. Champions Crowned In Hampton
by Luke Lacey – Golf NB
The third and final day of the 2018 Golf NB Provincial Junior Championships would see wild lead changes and dramatic finishes as 62 of New Brunswick’s top Junior aged golfers challenged the hard, fast fairways and firm greens of the Hampton Golf Club.
Felix Boucher of Fox Creek would start the day one shot clear of the Miramichi’s Nathan Hogan, and three shots clear of the Pierre-Luc Arsenault of St. Ignace in the race for the 2018 NB Junior Boys crown. Following closely behind in 4th place was 2017 Juvenile and Bantam Boys Champion Daniel Kirby of JH Sports.
Pulling through in his final round was Nathan Hogan of Miramichi Golf & Country club who recorded a 2-over par round of 74 to secure the 2018 Junior & Juvenile Boys Provincial Championship. Hogan’s round would consist of three birdies, five bogeys and ten pars on route to a tournament total of 227. Nathan has now won each division at the Provincial Championships as previously he had won the Pee Wee and Bantam Boys Championships. Finishing in second place in the Junior & Juvenile Boys Division was 2017 Juvenile and Bantam winner Daniel Kirby of JH Sports. Daniel also recorded a 2-over par round of 74 during his final round to put him 4 shots back of Nathan. Hogan and Kirby secured first and second place in both the Junior & Juvenile Divisions with Fox Creek’s Max Gaudet placing third in the Junior Division with a total of 233 and club mate Felix Boucher placed third in the Juvenile Division, fourth in the Junior.
In the Bantam Boys Division, Marc-Andre Gaudet of St. Ignace battled back during the final round recording a 10-over par 82 to capture the crown of 2018 NB Bantam Boys Champion. Gaudet’s event total of 252 consisting of 90, 80 and 82 were enough to put him 4 shots clear of the field. Edmundston’s Brandon Casey finished second in the Bantam Boys Division after a final round 15-over par 87. Finishing third was Ethan McFadden of Moncton who’s finished 5 shots back of Gaudet.
2018 East Coast Junior Girls Champion, Camille Lapierre-Ouellet of Granby, Quebec entered the final round with a two-stroke lead ahead of Gage’s Sarah Holt and Ashburn’s sister duo of Haley and Abbey Baker. However hot conditions and fast greens would see the top of the Junior & Juvenile Girls leaderboard quickly change. Taking advantage of the conditions was Haley Baker of Ashburn Golf Club whose impressive final round score of 1-over par 73 would be enough to secure her first ever NB Junior & Juvenile Provincial Championship. Her three-round total of 233 gave Baker a comfortable 4 shot lead over Gage’s Sarah Holt who finished in second place after a tournament total of 237 and a five shot lead over Camille Lapierre-Ouellet who finished tied for third place. Baker secured the Juvenile Division victory over her sister Abbey who won the Bantam Girls Championship with a final round score of 6-over par 78, leaving her with a 238 total for the tournament. Finishing second in the Bantam Girls Division is Cici Lin of JH Sports who finished the three-round event with a total score of 286.

Sitting in second place one shot back off the lead is Brandon Casey of Fraser Edmundston who fired a first round 11-over par 83. In solo third is JH Sport’s Michael Yang who finished 15-over par 87.
The girls were the next grouping to play the golf course and leading the way, fresh off of a solid performance at the East Coast Junior is Sarah Holt of the Gage Golf & Curling Club. Holt recorded a 7-over over 79 in hot and fast conditions on Tuesday. She started her round with a chip in birdie on the par-four 2nd followed by a double bogey on the par-four 3rd and a bogey on the par-three 7th to finish the front nine 2-over par 39. As the day grew old and the heat set in the course started to show it’s teeth. Holt finished her round with a 40, five-over par on the back nine. Her play during round one was enough to give her a comfortable two shot lead over Juvenile Girl Abbey Baker of Ashburn Golf Club and a five shot lead over 2018 East Coast Junior Girls Champion Camille Lapierre-Ouellet of Granby, Quebec.
The last pairings of the day was the Pee Wee division which includes ages 12 and under.
